the take
hot take first: Sue is not the great friend everyone says she is. she was part of the bullying at the start, didn't really stop it, and only got close to Carrie because her mom told her to. we'll allow that she's kind of nice. the bigger issue is the ending. having Emaline take the wheel at prom takes some of the responsibility off Carrie, and the whole point of Carrie is a girl who's been pushed too far and decides she's had enough. let her be bad and let that be the story. we did like the mom finding the other super kids, though. and if Emaline is out here telling people to crush skulls, we have questions about what that school is teaching.
this is the hosts' commentary and speculation for entertainment, not a statement of fact about anyone in it.
the backstory
Spoilers for the whole season ahead. Carrie is Mike Flanagan's eight-episode series take on Stephen King's first novel, and the first time the story has been made for tv as a series. All eight episodes dropped on Prime Video on October 7, 2026. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White, with Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross and Thalia Dudek as Emaline.
Emaline is new to this version. She befriends Carrie and helps her work on her powers, and it later turns out only Carrie can see her, because Emaline is astral projecting from somewhere else. At prom, after the pig's blood, Emaline appears behind Carrie and takes over for much of the destruction.
Flanagan told Polygon some deaths were meant to be Carrie's alone, including Tommy, Chris and Billy Nolan, but that the Carrie they wrote wouldn't consciously choose to kill Principal Grayle or Ms. Desjardin. So the hosts read the ending the way it was intended. They just wanted the version from the 1976 movie, where Sue asks Tommy to take Carrie to prom and the rampage is all Carrie.

- 0:00Hot take also, I don't think Sue was such a good friend.
- 0:04She was like, Carrie's my friend.
- 0:08No one's looking at it.
- 0:10But if you actually break it down, Sue was a part of the bullying at the beginning.
- 0:15She maybe didn't participate as much as Chris, but she didn't necessarily stop it.
- 0:20And then she basically only became friends with her because her mom told her to.
- 0:24I mean, she was kind of a nice person too, but yeah, I know there are blurred ethical lines in Carrie for sure.
- 0:31One big difference also is in the original movie, Sue asks her boyfriend to take Carrie to prom.
- 0:38But I did like in this one that the boyfriend asked her to prom on his own.
- 0:43But the only thing there is that was controversial, because did Sue know?
- 0:49It seemed like Sue only found out at the parent teacher meeting or whatever that was.
- 0:53Right.
- 0:55The new one, compared to the old one, the new one kind of takes some of the responsibility off of Carrie for doing the crazy shit because of this character.
- 1:06Like, at the end, she was taken over by this person.
- 1:10And so then she's not responsible.
- 1:12And it even showed that basically after she killed Chris, and then she's like, oh my God.
- 1:17And it's like, I kind of liked in the original.
- 1:20She was like, no, like, right.
- 1:23That's the thing. Carrie is like a girl's just been pushed too far.
- 1:27Exactly.
- 1:28And people do fail her, but she's just had enough.
- 1:30And then she makes the decision to cause total havoc.
- 1:33Yeah.
- 1:34So I did think that that take was a little bit wild.
- 1:37Did like the storyline also with like the mom reaching out to like that other mother and like finding out that there are like the other super children out there.
- 1:46I did like that.
- 1:48But I do wish that at the end, Emily or Emaline, whatever her name was, wasn't like, let me take the wheel and basically killed everyone, because I really do think it should have been like Carrie just having a complete break.
- 2:01Yeah, coming into her own.
- 2:03Exactly.
- 2:03A la Jesse Solomon.
- 2:04Right, just be bad, like let her be bad and let that be the story.
- 2:09And also, since Emaline or whatever her name was kept telling her to like crush people's skulls, is that what the school is promoting?
- 2:17Is like, is she like?
- 2:18Right. Well, we don't know.
- 2:20There's a lot of unanswered questions.
