the take
as it played out on Below Deck Med, Max was there for about half a charter when he got a frantic call from his somewhat estranged dad in Tunisia, who was caught up in what sounded like an organized crime money scheme and couldn't leave the country. Captain Sandy told him he was risking his life, and we joked about it being quite the storyline, though we don't actually think it's scripted. apparently he's fine, which is the main thing. for half a charter, that's a whole season's worth of plot.
this is the hosts' commentary and speculation for entertainment, not a statement of fact about anyone in it.
the backstory
Below Deck Mediterranean season 11 premiered on Bravo on June 8, 2026, with Captain Sandy Yawn's crew aboard M/Y Akira One in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Max Salvador, a deckhand from Cannes, France, joined partway through the season.
In episode 12, Max got an urgent call from his father, who he'd been estranged from for more than a decade. His father said he was trapped in a dangerous situation in Tunisia. Max decided to go help him, with a plan to cross into Libya and get his dad back to France. Captain Sandy warned him the plan was reckless and could put his life at risk, but told him it was his decision. Max left the boat in episode 13, after about one charter.
Max posted on Instagram on September 4 that his dad is "okay." In the clip we recap the storyline as it aired, and no, we don't think it was scripted.
